How Long Does a Bathroom Renovation Take in Adelaide (2026 Realistic Timeline) ?
Most bathroom renovations in Adelaide take around 4 to 6 weeks on site, depending on the condition of the home and the scope of work.
We focus on full bathroom renovations starting from $30,000+, where the job is done properly from the ground up.
When people ask how long a bathroom renovation takes, I usually say the same thing.
Most jobs take about 4 weeks on site.
But in Adelaide, it’s rarely that straightforward.
A lot of homes here are older character houses with solid brick walls, outdated plumbing, and things you only discover once you open everything up.
That’s where timelines can stretch to 5 or even 6 weeks. See our recent projects
Here’s a realistic breakdown of what actually happens.
This timeline is based on full bathroom renovations where the room is stripped back and rebuilt properly.
If you’re planning a cosmetic upgrade or a quick budget job, the timeline may be shorter, but it usually comes with compromises.
We start by removing everything.
Old tiles, vanity, bath, fittings — the lot.
The room is stripped back so we can rebuild it properly.
We bring in a skip bin and clear everything out.
Once that’s done, the plumber and electrician come in for the rough-in.
This is also when we inspect what’s underneath.
In homes built from the early 1900s through to the 1970s, we often find old terracotta pipes, cast iron drainage, or outdated systems that need replacing.
This is one of the biggest reasons timelines can change.
This week is about getting the room ready for the build.
If it’s a solid brick home, we re-render the walls.
If it’s timber frame, we install and flush new wall sheeting.
We also screed the floor and set the correct falls so water drains properly.
One thing we see a lot in Adelaide homes is moisture sitting in walls, especially in older double brick properties.
If there’s been leaks, those walls can hold moisture for a long time.
In some cases, we bring in drying equipment and let the space fully dry before moving forward.
Rushing this step is where problems start later.
Planning your bathroom renovation?
We can give you a realistic timeline based on your home and layout
This is the most critical stage of the entire renovation.
We apply two full coats of waterproofing membrane and allow it to cure properly.
This is not something that can be rushed.
Once waterproofing is complete, we move into tiling.
Walls and floors are tiled, then grouted and sealed.
At this stage, the bathroom really starts to come together visually.
Final stage.
We install:
Everything is connected, tested, and checked.
We then clean the space properly and walk you through the finished bathroom so you understand how everything works.
If your home was built before 1990, we organise asbestos testing before demolition starts.
It’s a requirement in South Australia and it’s always better to deal with it upfront rather than stopping the job halfway through.
Order your tiles and tapware at least 4 to 8 weeks before the renovation starts.
Supply delays still happen, and the last thing you want is the job sitting idle waiting on materials.
Most bathroom renovations take around 4 weeks on site.
But in Adelaide homes, especially older properties, it’s realistic to allow 5 to 6 weeks once plumbing, moisture, or structural issues are addressed.
Rushing the process usually leads to problems later.
We’d rather take the extra time to do it properly once, than have you redo it in a few years.
